Happy Friday!
I am sharing some helpful information from our middle school nurse, Renee Hyland.
Vitamin E & Allergic Rhinitis (aka Seasonal Allergies)
Runny nose, itchy eyes, and congestion that happens with seasonal allergies is caused by the body releasing histamine. One nutrient that can really help is Vitamin E. Over 96% of Americans don’t get enough! Vitamin E can help inhibit, or stop, activated mast cells from releasing histamine.
A variety of clinical trials have shown that the lower the Vitamin E level, the worse the allergy symptoms; and that supplementing with vitamin E can help improve seasonal allergies, atopic dermatitis (like eczema), breast cysts, and exercise-induced asthma.
Best food sources include:
Unsweetened almond milk
Pumpkin & squash seeds
Sunflower seeds
Pecans & Almonds
Gogi berries
Blackberries
